Where do old writers go?

Image
Where do old, tired, and broken writers go? Seriously, do we fizzle out and vanish into the thinnest mist and disappear forever. Well, Mr. Milton was old, blind even, however, he wrote one of the best two-part series in the history of poetry; Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained. My dearly departed brother once told me to become a writer. Why? You will be immortalized. Just like Papa. I shrugged my shoulders and heaved a sigh of relief and resignation. It will not be easy but it will be worth it. Myriad thoughts and ideas rushed through my mind like blood through the synapses and veins forming neurons in the brain matter. How do I write? Where do I begin? Just like eating peanuts, echoed in my memory. He reminded me. Yes, feel the words. And, write them. When you become old, you become more real. More genuine. Authentic. You enjoy life. You become more relaxed. Like fine wine, it does get better with age. You know your priorities. It is not, most definitely, resting on your laurel...

Exclusive for Bicol Mail Inspired: Christmas outshines virus: increasing Divinity...

Image
I almost died a few months ago. Not of COVID-19 but something else… It was pitch black, drizzling, no stars, no moon, and the lamp post light was kaput. I was cycling straight ahead and suddenly, a black S.U.V. turned to its left. I pedaled to the left lane and there was an approaching vehicle and all passengers and the driver shrieked in horror. Still I am here, writing just for you. Why? It is the Season of Christmas. Now, more than ever, we are closer to God all the more. He loves us dearly. He hears our prayers, wishes, hopes, and dreams. He can see the tears in His children’s eyes. The more His Divine Love increases. When we realize that we absolutely need Him: He is steadfast and merciful. Loving. Our Father. I guess we forgot Him a little bit. We removed Him from our lives before the pandemic. We had taken Him for granted. However, He works in mysterious ways. He used Modern Technology to unite us all. The nations worked together for a vaccine. Hold on a little bit longer....

And the reason why... is...

Dear Chazz, I was inspired by your life. I became a writer etc., because of you. I'm sick just like you were. After High School, I didn't want to do anything. I did not have to be a writer etc., I did all those things because I wanted to tell you that life does get better. From the speech of Al Pacino's character in an iconic film. He said and I do not recall verbatim, sorry, he said that it is difficult to fix a broken spirit. :( We throw away broken things. They don't matter. They can be replaced. Or cure a new disease e.g. the true story about Lorenzo's oil.  However, I always remember that our God is not an author of sad endings.  If it is not a great story then He is not yet done writing. Philosophically, time is not a factor for Him at all. You are always in my prayers.  And, may your spirit rest in heavenly peace. Remember, He is in charge of everything. Bluntly, He always has the final say... Amen. And, Thank you! -james z. carpio Full credits to the Canadia...

Bible Verse

Image
James Z. Carpio, writer James 3:1-12   New International Version (NIV) Taming the Tongue 3  Not many of you should become teachers,  my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged  more strictly.   2  We all stumble  in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say  is perfect,  able to keep their whole body in check. 3  When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.   4  Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.   5  Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.  Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.   6  The tongue also is a fire,  a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body,  sets the whole course of...

Thinking about Jesus

Image
James Z. Carpio, writer Thinking about Jesus By James Z. Carpio Is thinking about Our Lord Jesus Christ a prayer in itself? I hope so. Why? Because He never lets anybody down. When I have writer’s block, I pray for inspiration. I have a lot of faith in Him. He is my refuge. He gave me this gift of writing. And, I try to use it wisely. I pour out my thoughts into paper. To make peace out of the anarchy and chaos amid all of us. To be continued…

Dear Reader

Image
Dear Reader By James Z. Carpio I may not have all the answers, however, I should like to do my best to write this one as inspiring as possible. You may be wondering why I am writing in letter form. We all have a lot of questions. Everyone. Not even one single person on this planet is spared. I know one fact about you. It is obvious. You like to read. This is not a reading requirement at the University rather this is just leisure reading. You may be curious what is really going on in a writer’s mind. Aside from the standard, I am keen on avoiding portmanteaus, code switching, cliches, err that word necessitates a tilde. Apologies, and enough about me. Did you notice that in your life if you have been given the gift of hearing that you have heard good and not so good things about yourself? Now, if you put them all together you could make a mosaic masterpiece of yourself. Although, the pieces may be sharp, jagged, and broken. So, shatter that mosaic masterpiece because...

Back to Bicol Mail and Last Random Thoughts on the Pandemic

Image
In March of 2020, I turned in my two expired Identification Cards to Neil Aureus. I finally found the lost I.D. so, instead of one it was plus one. I requested for a new one and told Neil that I would get it on April. However, Covid-19 happened. In April there was a lockdown. Hence, I was not able to write for Bicol Mail. With the laws on cyber crime which includes Fake News apprehension. I opted not to write for the firm then. On May 14th, my I.D. was renewed for 3 years. Words are powerful. And more so, with printed words. Inspirational writing is like walking on eggshells. I have to be nice. And, I mean genuine nice. When bad things happen to me, I take action. And, I know self-defense. This leads to the awakening about not taking offense and forgiveness. I have been researching about those and a Resource stated that why would you be shocked by the evil that is happening in the world when the Bible teaches about them explicitly. Cain killed Abel, his own brother. ...

Models' Conversations

Image
As a model you do a lot of waiting. The industry teaches you the virtue of patience. Then, you realize how special the opportunity really is. Why? Because it is like an international convention. An Olympics of some sort. When you ask fellow models where they come from you become at awe how the world became smaller. In a way, because of airplane travels. Europe mostly, other South East Asian countries, and the U.S.A. and the local models, of course.  It can be interesting, the conversations that I had made while waiting for my own appointed casting call. But, I can not really tell you what we talked about because of privacy matters and confidentiality agreements with company clients. In the final analysis, you are not part of the industry so no matter how hard I try you will never understand our little tribe. Like, I have to most of the time begin or end with a slate. photo credit: GC FOR LV Beta Dourados via photopin (license) License: (license)

A little help from Vietnam

Image
A little help from Vietnam By James Z. Carpio There was a news report from years back that a Philippine fishing vessel was in peril out in International waters. Who helped the Filipinos? Well, providentially, there were Vietnamese sailors who took them under their wings and brought them back safely to shore in the Philippines. Our sincerest gratitude indeed. The national government warns that if what happened in the public places wherein safe distancing was violated, people would end up on the streets. Lifeless. Yes, that is possible. It happened in Ecuador. Early on, the high risk of a second wave occurring in a recovered country is quite probable. People must have missed out on the report about what happened in Singapore. Reports now state that Japan, South Korea, and even Germany experienced varying degrees of a second wave. A Japanese health expert warned to much his chagrin that cases spiked a thousand percent in a specific prefecture. Transparency and truthfulness is appreciated ...

My Grandfather's Birthday (April 13)

Image
Hermenegildo We share the same name. I was named after you. You wrote well. I became a writer. You liked to walk going to Church. I followed you, but, you walked fast, I trailed behind. You were in your 80s then. You walked with a cane. You rarely spoke. I was shy. I don't recall long conversations with you but I do remember receiving a Birthday Card from you. It was engineered to perfection. Out of your own creativity. I was young then. All I could say was, "Wow!" You were a Civil Engineer.  And the bridge you built still bridges over troubled waters. Thank you and Happy Birthday! I hope I make you proud... Love and Prayers, Jaime Hermenegildo

Why do I forgive?

Image
Having been forgiven by my enemy in turn I forgive other people who had hurt me. Love thy enemy. That is probably the hardest verse from the Bible. It is easy to forgive friends, strangers, and family but it is so difficult to forgive and love your enemy.  It does not mean that you did not learn anything from what happened rather you want history not to repeat itself. It is painful. Both sides had been hurt. I may had been well-meaning but I could had been mean and bullied the enemy. Bygones. Forget about it, like I always say. I have to live my life now. And, I do love my life. Move forward and on with the journey...…. May you be inspired by the Holy Spirit and God Bless! -Bob photo credit: symphony of love Haemin Sunim Forgive them. So you can be free. So you can be happy. So you can go on living your life via photopin (license) License: (license)

The Missionaries of the Poor and The Maronites

Image
It is a good facility. The whole surroundings are dotted with greeneries. And, it is clean almost sterile to a point. I would say it is better than some Government Facilities. Most importantly, the patients both adults and children are well looked after by the medical staff and personnel. The resident management is the Missionaries of the Poor. The Missionaries of the Poor are based in Jamaica. And the missionaries come from different parts of the globe. Last January, they had help from a twenty-people-team from Sydney, Australia: The Maronites. They stayed for a two-week-mission. I interviewed the leader of the team, George Nasr. He told me about their noble cause. The Charity Mission was founded in 2012 by eight people and it more than doubled as of the present. The volunteers are estimated to be about five hundred people.  It is a privately funded pursuit and a non-profit organization. They have missions in Lebanon, Iraq, India, The Phi...
