Condensed Reflection

By James Z. Carpio

According to Father Mike, Generosity is the spiritual gift that is love put into action. There are many gifts that we already have and that we take for granted or much worse— we do not use. Why pray for super natural gifts when we have one that would be just as good or even better?

He cites an example when one would ask for the power of healing. The kind of gift where one just lays one’s hands on the sick and there is a miracle of getting well. Father Mike illustrates the point when we are already given the gift of mobility. Why not visit your friend or family member at the hospital instead? For sure that would be greatly appreciated.

Actions speak louder than words. Generosity is the fruition of hope, faith, and, love. In desperate times, we can help anyone according to the gift we already have.

In state of calamities, we can donate things we do not use to victims such as clothes, blankets, unused toiletries i.e. toothbrush, etc. We can donate our time and volunteer. If we are blessed, then, sending monetary aid no matter how small would go a long way in alleviating victims’ dire circumstances.

In the epic film, It’s a Wonderful Life, a man was in need of a hefty amount of money to save his firm. In sheer despondency, he tried to take the easy way out. His angel in the making, Clarence, helped him realize how much he is loved throughout his lifetime. And, that the world would not have been a more wonderful place if he were not born.

At the end of the story, the whole town pitched in with every cent or more that they had to help George. Thus, his bankruptcy was over, his younger brother announced to everyone while having a toast in celebration of their victory, to my brother, George, the richest man in town.

Then, Clarence wrote him a special message that no man is a failure who has friends. George’s daughter heard a bell rung and exclaimed, whenever a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.

So, George thought about Clarence, smiled, and, winked.
