Meet Fullbright Schutzengel

'Pax Romana! David Lancaster... ' He paused as David began to trace where the voice was coming from. All he could see was a radiance of blinding light. The glass of water, he remembered. It fell from his grip and shattered into myriad pieces. And there was a heavy downpour.

Now, by the river he could feel the slight drizzle but his clothes were still drenched. Although he was trying to figure out what happened. Echoes. A crash. Then complete darkness. A sliver of confusion about time and places.

"Who is that?" he mumbled while he scanned the bare hospital room. Then, ever so slowly, the light became muted and his sight, intermittently, began regaining its normal focus. He was startled.

'Hello, David. My name is Fullbright Schutzengel, your guardian angel. You have been in a coma for three months. Your van crashed into the river while you tried to avoid a speeding bus. Sadly, your three friends drowned and your two other friends survived.'

David coughed. And tears welled up in his eyes.

Schutzengel covered David's brown eyes with blue limbal rings and whispered, 'We will fly now.'

David felt the cool breeze against his body and he could feel the angel's flapping wings and he saw how enormous they are. "Why are your wings so huge?"

Schutzengel chuckled and then laughed. 'Well, David you are a rare breed. You know the fight or flight defense mechanisms? You always take flight and I am the one responsible for your safe flight and secure landing.'

He felt shy, ashamed actually, and David said, "I guess... I am okay with that."

'No. No. No. That is admirable. It is a peaceful and, more importantly, an enlightened command approach to life.'

"Where are we going, Fullbright?" he shrugged and sighed.

'To be honest David, after this you will go back into coma. I am taking you to the waiting realm. Think of it as a departure lounge of an airport.'

'This time you have to choose between two paths. And it's tricky. Well, difficult.'

'However, do not worry for I shall give you the gift of light.'

'Will you put up a fight or take flight? To be precise, the question is, will you go back or leave?'
