Peñafrancia in retrospect

EVERYTHING happens for a reason. Even the fall of a leaf is part of God’s grand design of His creation. Every circumstance is orchestrated. May I invite you to an article of alliteration. Thru this we will try to unravel some mysteries surrounding the biggest Marian devotion in Asia. Our Lady of Peñafrancia seen from a refreshing new perspective.
There is a beautiful coincidence that this feast happens in the heart of Bicol. The center of the region which is Naga. If you would examine the eleven-letter-word Peñafrancia you will discover that its center is the letter ‘r’. It will be revealed before the end of this literary piece the significant word which starts with this letter at the center of the word of our topic.
There must be a beautiful meaning why the Traslacion bringing the Image of Ina to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral, from The Shrine happens on a road. Then the nine day novena begins. And again there must be a wonderful reason why the Fluvial Procession bringing Our Lady back to her home in The Basilica happens along a river.

As most of us are now back to our homes after the celebration of the feast of Ina, here are some reasons for reflection that may have profound ramifications that might propel positive changes in our lives.
Revelry
Lively and noisy festivities marked the atmosphere with food and drinks aplenty. We may recall that Jesus’ first miracle happened through the intercession of Mary his mother who made it known to him that they ran out of wine at the wedding in Cana. He changed water to wine.
Rest
We now have peace and quiet after the busy and happy chaotic ambience. Perhaps we can spend a period of time for reflection by fixing of our thoughts on something special that we have experienced. A meditation to gain peace of mind and spirit.
Remembrance
We recall the celebrations that we have attended in the previous September feast. We reminisce the countless messages from Ina and her Son that have become part of our memories. We cherish the joyful moments that have transpired all these years.
Recovery
A number of pilgrims went to this pilgrimage city with the intention of being healed. Countless people can speak of miracle healings that have happened to their families and friends. May all the sick and suffering all over the globe be healed through the intercession of our beloved Lady.
Return
Devotees have returned to Naga from different parts of the region, the country and the world to witness the undying love for the Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. They came to see Ina to kiss her manto and participate in the religious festivities. As we have returned in our homes may we find her in the altar of our hearts.
Revisit
This was also one of the best times for reunions. Visiting our family and spending time with them is crucial in developing and maintaining meaningful relationships. We visited the churches to prioritize God and Ina. There was also fun time with side trips to tourist spots, carnivals, and malls.
Route
It took us different ways to get here. Near or far. Some walked, rode vehicles like tricycles, motorbikes, jeepneys, cars, and buses while others came by planes. It did not matter how we arrived what mattered was we have reached our destination safely in our Ina’s loving embrace.
Religion
Our Roman Catholic faith became more alive during these times. The Holy Spirit gives us confirmation when we are following the will of God for our lives. It is one way He encourages us on our spiritual journey.
The middle or center of the word Peñafrancia is the letter ‘r’. It is apt that we can think of it as the beginning of another word which is the rosary. It is a rediscovery that the image found in the mountains of Peña de Francia was the statue of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Mary’s gift to us is the holy rosary. In return, isn’t it a beautiful gift to Ina if we recite this powerful prayer daily? Isn’t it a wonderful coincidence that after September, the month of Peñafrancia, is October which is the month of the holy rosary?
Viva La Virgen!
Viva El Divino Rostro! Viva!
