Katekismo Corner: On the Sacraments of Initiation: No. 10

On the Sacraments of Initiation On this 4th Sunday of Ordinary Time, as we are reflecting on the beginnings of the Public Ministry of Jesus, it is good to review also the beginnings of our own Christian Life that serve as the foundation of our response to Jesus’ call of discipleship. These are the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explicitly states that: “the sharing in the divine nature given to men through the grace of Christ bears a certain likeness to the origin, development and nourishing of natural life. The Faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity.” (CCC 1212) Unlike the “initiation” in groups or associations that involves violence, inflicting pain, putting to s...

Katekismo Corner: On the Sunday of the Word of God: No. 9

On the Sunday of the Word of God The Third Sunday of Ordinary Time was declared by the Holy Father Pope Francis as the Sunday of the Word of God the objective of which is to remind the Faithful of the importance and value of the Sacred Scriptures in Christian Life and its relation to the Sacred Liturgy. In addition, Pope Francis invites the Faithful that the Day assigned to the appreciation of the Bible not only be a yearly occasion but a year-long occasion of growth in the knowledge and love of the Sacred Scriptures which is the Word of God. In the Sacred Liturgy especially of the Holy Mass, by means of the designated readings, God himself speaks to the people and Jesus proclaims the Gospel. Thus, the Liturgy of the Word is the period of listening to the Word of God. Do our minds fly after hearing the commentator say “Please be seated for the Liturgy of Word”? Or go out of the Church? Talk to others? Or even use our cell phones to Text or Call? Instead, all attention must b...

Ascension Presents: "Is This a Sin?"

Image
Ascension Press  and  Ascension Presents   in collaboration with  Inspires   give you this riveting magnum opus.‎.. Condensed Reflection by James Z. Carpio   Father Mike Schmitz is right, just surrender to God. When I am not sure about anything, I do not like to debate with myself and confuse myself. Rather, I just pray to God and tell Him to forgive me if it indeed what I committed is a sin. I think this is also similar to the situation when in confession we humbly ask the priest to forgive the sins that we may have forgotten. May you be inspired by The Holy Spirit and God bless!
